| Long Company | 20:00 | Luddenden Foot, Mytholmroyd, Kershaw House, Luddenden Lane
[This increasingly popular event is proving quite an attraction with people attending from all over the country. Each performance is followed by a music session in the pub, and when you look round the room, it's sometimes a 'Who's who' of traditional English folk music. The play itself is performed by lantern light and is accompanied by a large and enthusiastic band of people performing a Wassail Song and playing the mummers on and off the scene with a rousing special tune. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lantern (a candle in a jam jar will do fine). Get the mummers march music off us and join the band!] |

| Long Company | 20:00 | Luddenden Foot, Kershaw House
[Best to arrive at 7.30 p.m. (ish) where you'll find the band and singers gathering inside the pub. At 7.55 p.m. The Wassail Song is sung. The band then strike up with The Long Company March and all those gathered inside are led outside and assemble around a torchlit performance area. The Long Company 'actors' process out of the dark slowly & eerily led by Old King Christmas, ringing his bell. The identity of the 'actors', a closely guarded secret, is protected by the majestic coloured strip costumes reflecting the torchlight & they appear to be over seven feet tall. Bring instruments for the session afterwards!] |
