[Skelton-on-Ure Mummers Play. This is a revival of a traditional village "hero/combat" play, which has been reintroduced to the village, using orally transmitted information (father to son) so that the line is almost unbroken. It has been performed by members of Wakeman Mummers every Xmas/New Year since 1980, and has now settled on New Year's Day. The play is performed all around the village from 11.00 o'clock and then in the Black Lion pub]		 Jim Coulson

[We only perform at Christmas in our own village of Cowling and the neighbouring villages of Sutton and Cross Hills. This is our 5th year. All members are from the village - five from the hamlet of Middleton. Eight people have performed. We perform a version of combat play. Bold Slasher's father or mother is always a topical character. Three or four rehearsals. This year we swapped round parts for the first time - five or six parts. Generally there are two performance dates, but this time only one due to closure of two pubs - then one reopened! - Wasswail! Happy Yuletide!]		 Mark Barnes
