*The Mummer's play [Mareham-le-Fen, Lincs.]
Nottingham Guardian, 10th Jan.1924, No.21154, p.2 d

Letter with a brief description and text fragment of Singing Ploughboys who performed on Plough Monday at Mareham-le-Fen, Lincs. The players entered the village arm-in-arm across the street, singing as they went. The play included the "usual" sequence of recruitment, fight and cure. Characters mentioned are Weeping Willie [the Farmer's Man], Sergeant and Doctor, as well as a fiddler. These characters, together with the name "Morris Dancers" also used by the author, probably derive from a letter appearing the previous day (E.M., 1924)
